Vintage Wallace Silver Plate Meat Tray with Three Sections, Middle Section has Juice Tree, 1950s Heavy Silver Plate Carving Platter, 22 by 16"

This one is gorgeous. The rim has a beautiful heavy and ornate design. The center compartment, for the actual carving is nice and large, and the two compartments on the side are nice and deep too. I always used those to hold the cut meat, or sometimes I'd also put one of our side dishes on them, like a nice helping of sauteed asparagus or green beans, or perhaps some baked potatoes. The 3 compartments are great as a place to put the slices after dad cuts it up.

And if he's like my dad was, take the knife away as soon as he's through. My dad was very expressive with his hands and as he was carving the turkey, he'd be telling us a story about how when he was growing up, they raised their own turkeys, and he loved to tell us how dumb turkeys were as his hands, one holding a carving knife, the other a sharp fork, were flailing through the air. I always sat close to him on one side of the table and I remember bobbing and weaving to make sure I didn't get skewered. But boy were his stories great, and there's probably not a day go by that I don't miss his smile, and those waving hands and arms along with a good story.
I'm starting to put sustainable on all of my listings because it dawned on me the other day...what is more sustainable than vintage. What is better for the earth than something that's already been made. Why make more items to clog up our environment when there is so much already out there. So, vintage is about the best "sustainable" thing you can sell.

Privacy policy

I'm an old retail gal, and Etsy has been fun. But as a seller, the most challenging thing I deal with is shipping. I believe shipping costs can make or break a small online business. As an example, I recently joined Etsy's Free Shipping Guarantee and lost so much money I had to remove it from my shop. Shipping an item to Texas might cost me $15, but that same item going to California or Oregon, might cost me $30 or more. You can see the problem. So basically, my remedy is to offer sales on my item, that way I can control the loss of income. I'm not here to get rich, that's for sure. I'm here to find my treasures a new home. But at the same time I don't want to lose money while running this unique adoption program, so free shipping is sometimes just not an option. And along with shipping costs, my shipping time is somewhat of a problem when I receive a high volume of orders. Remember, I'm an OLD retail gal and not very much of a multi-tasker any more. So there are times when you're shipment might be a tad late. Please be patient. Write and ask about your purchase if it hasn't arrived when you think it should have, and I will be perfectly honest about when I shipped and will supply a tracking number.

Vintage and antique items are always unique and the buyer is responsible for reviewing the pictures provided and reading the details of each item before purchasing. Please remember that vintage is far from new, and there are times when wear is visible. We will always list any such wear or age or any flaw in our listing so please read carefully. Finding a problem on a vintage item that has been pointed out in a listing is not an acceptable reason for a return. If a flaw has been noted and you have simply changed your mind, we will only refund the value of the item, no shipping costs will be refunded and that's only if the item is returned in the same condition it was when we shipped. Questions are always welcome and more pictures will be provided if requested.

If an item is received damaged in shipping, please contact me asap. You will need to keep the damaged packaging as well as provide photographs of the packaging and of all damage to your item. This is so that I may open a claim with the shipper. I am unable to refund unless these steps are properly followed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we know the correct dates and information on vintage?

Most items at TurnPikeTreasures were purchased from estate sales and information about authenticity and age is answered at the time of purchase. Treasures found at other sales or shops are researched and researched again until we're satisfied with information we can pass on to a potential buyer. If we are still unsure after our research we'll let you know that in the listing. I have always put a small label on every item I buy with all the information about the treasure that I know. So when I retrieve things from our storage unit, I just have to read that label and the memory of its purchase comes back. So although I do research when needed, most of my treasures have its history recorded.

Shipping Questions

All oversized or extremely heavy boxes will be shipped using the lowest rate. For instance, if priority is more than $5 over what ground might be, I use the cheapest. If our shipping costs are more than what you paid, we will absorb those dollars. If the final cost is less than what you paid, we will refund you the overage.

We package our items with care, but accidents happen with shipping. If there is ever a problem please keep all your packaging because we would need pictures and proof of damage to claim insurance. We do not issue refunds until we receive these photos.

How Do We Price Our Items?

We have been collectors and dealers of antique and vintage for nearly 50 years. After this many years, pricing is very easy for us. But because I'm honestly trying to find new homes for our vast collections, we often price below the going rate. Feel free to ask questions about something you like, or make a reasonable offer on anything we have priced at $25 or more. But don't be surprised if we ask you to fill out an adoption application. :>)))

Care instructions

For our silver plate and brass items, we clean them if we think they need it, but things do tarnish easily unless they're listed as tarnish resistant. Sometimes we pull something out after it has sold and there is a little tarnish on it again that we will clean. But what I recommend for you is to buy a pack of the silver cleaning cloths...they work really well for that tad bit of tarnish that might be on your treasure when you get it, or might accumulate if you don't use the treasure very often. Takes very little elbow grease and they're great to keep around for that little buffing before guests arrive.

Reserved Items and Layaways

I will reserve an item for you if you ask. If it's an expensive item, I'll ask for one third of the cost upfront,
Another payment has to be made in 30 days, and the final payment is due in 60 days with any shipping added to that payment. If for any reason you have a problem making any of the payments, please contact me and we'll work something out. If you don't make a payment, and I don't hear from you within the time limits, I will remove the item from reserved status and put it back into my shop for sale. If you've made more than one payment on the item, I'll refund that payment, but the initial payment can not be refunded.

Returns

I will accept returns if item is not as described or if it is damaged. But if you just don't like it, or you didn't read the description about size or color or defects, you need to contact me before returning. You might consider using it as a gift for a friend or loved one who collects vintage because I don't return original shipping costs. That's an expense that I had to pay for, so I can't be out that cost unless the item is damaged, or not as described.

I CAN'T ACCEPT RETURNS ON FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS. They're just too delicate to travel back and forth. Study the photos and ask for more if you need them.

We don't accept returns on comic books, records, and other collectibles that are fragile and are graded for condition.

CAN I RETURN A CLOCK?

Before returning a clock, write and let me know you're having a problem. Clocks are sensitive and sometimes shipping will cause a problem, like a pendulum not spinning, or a chime not working, or the hands of the clock can sometimes be loose after shipping. Most of these problems are normal and can be fixed. If you return a clock because it's not working, and it is working when we get it back, then I will refund only the total for the clock, not the shipping.
